I am exploring environments, often not venturing far from my plate. I enjoy subject matter with an immediate familiarity because it adds a certain level of comfort to the image—the challenge of trying to use it to express fresh ideas is one that I relish.
Though frequently dismissed as ubiquitous, I believe food is so commonly used in artwork not only because it is submissive, but also because it can be expressive and intensely sensual. I love to play with these aspects to explore my own thoughts on sensuality, femininity and a sense of place. I frequently construct the environments in my images as a way to narrow down ideas and focus my vision.
I work predominantly in alternative photographic processes because the level of involvement required with each image is, for me, what makes it a fulfilling artistic endeavor. I love working with my hands and the sun, discovering all the factors and surprises each process offers.
